The first thing you notice when you step out onto the baking Tarmac at Kefillinia Airport is the sky. Notwithstanding the numerous EU bailouts, ECB handouts and scandalously misapplied austerity measures, the situation in Greece just seems to go from bad to worse. Once you actually get here and peer up with your own eyes, up into the fathomless azure, only then do you realise the extent of the misery gripping this poor blighted land. Whatever the reason - bank runs, Armageddon-inducing deficits, the very folly of European Monetary Union itself, it seems the poor Greeks have reached their own bottom line. The sad fact is this: they can't even scrape together enough to be able to afford a single cloud.
