Bono to play hypocritical tosser who whinges on about third world debt relief whilst flying his favourite trilby hat halfway round world - exclusive

Rock star and pristine humanoid, Bono is to appear in a new sitcom by comedy superstar writers Dick Clement and Ian le Frenais. The show will feature the Irish singer's friend and partner in world problem solving, Sir Bob Geldof in a remake of the classic 60s and 70s show Steptoe and son. Bono is expected to take the role of grumpy old man, Albert Steptoe whilst Geldof is set to revive his much heralded turn as Albert's constantly thwarted son, Harold.

The show's first episode is expected to feature a storyline in which Harold attempts to bring peace, justice and an end to global poverty to troubled Oil Drum Lane, Shepherd's Bush. However, as fans of the long running comedy would anticipate, he is ultimately foiled by a combination of his father's stubbornness, the machinations of aggressive global capitalism and man's innate inhumanity to his fellow man.

In an unrelated development, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen JR. will be starring as Bob, Thelma and Terry in a stage version of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane until November 15th.
